he beckoned to me and begged me to phone his brother once more as he

did not know his way about. As I felt sorry for the lad, I did so.

I managed to contact his brother by phone and I was requested to take

the boy to the Sheung Shui Railway Station at about 8 p.m.

(7)

As I had to do some shopping in Sheung Shui I left earlier

using the vehicle with the boy seated next to me.

(8)

At Sheung Shui I parked my vehicle and left the boy sitting

in it while I went to do my purchases. 1

(9)

It appears that during my absence patrolling police officers

questioned the boy in the vehicle and discovered that he was an illegal

immigrant. As a result, when I returned to my vehicle I was taken into

custody by the police and subsequently charged with the offence of

aiding and abetting the boy to remain in the Colony without the authority

of the Director of Immigration.

(10) I engaged Mr. L. J. D'Almada Remedios, a Solicitor, to plead

guilty before a Magistrate on my behalf. The facts outlined above,

which are true, were related to the Court. The prosecution did not

dispute the facts. I learnt that the police located the brother of the

boy who said that he brought $1,000.00 with him to Sheung Shui 'in case

he had to pay a reward.

I made it clear to the Court, through my

solicitor, that I had not at any time asked for any fee or reward from

the boy or his brother or anyone else. This statement of fact was also

accepted by the prosecution.
