changing the dates of the holidays was to reduce the number of

B) Profiteering
1/ The English dictationaries incident: Since 1974, the
school has made it a rule that each student should buy a copy of
The Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English (published
by Tung Wa bookstore) from the school. The present market price
of the dictionary is $19 per copy. The school bought the dictionaries
in large quantities from Taiwan, and the wholesale price should
be less than $14 (about $8.9). When the school sold these
dictationaries to students, the price was as high as $23. The
school thus made great profits at the expense of students.
2/ The incident of 4-figure tables: The school printed a
large number of 4-figure tables for students. The cost was
50 cents each, but they were sold at $2 per copy to the students.
In other words, for every copy sold, the school earned $1.50
