Jubilee students to receive tutorials in the Chinese University and Hong Kong
University campus.
A group of more than one hundred catholics held a reflective prayer meeting on
the same evening in the Diocesan Pastoral Centre on the Golden Jubilee Issue,
and made a public statement afterwards.
85. On the same day, the theologian students of Chinese University stated their
disapproval over the closure of the school. They requested the Church to take
up reconciliation work in this critical difficult moment and demanded an
immediate re-open of the school.
A group of Christians from Kwun Tong commented the closure act as a sentence
without trial and called for an open forum inviting all teachers, parents,
the principal and the representatives from the Education Department to hold a
true-finding session.
86. On May 20, 1978, the Education Department announced that it would make special
arrangement to assist the Golden Jubilee students from F.2 to F.4 with their
studies in other schools for the remainder of this semester. (which contradicted
the statement issued by the Education Department on May 14 when they announced
the closure)
87. On May 22, 1978, temporary tutorial scheme for the Golden Jubilee students
began in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Two-third of the 600 F.2 to
F.4 students joint this tuition scheme organized by post-secondary students
and supervised by professors of the College of Education of the Chinese
University.
88. On the same day, the teachers, students and parents announced that they had
formed a teachers, students and parents joint action committee to steer the
protracted struggle for re-opening of the school and against high-handed
oppression from the authorities. Two representatives would continue the sit-in.
On the other hand, a "All Citizens' Committee on Striving for Re-opening of
Golden Jubilee School" was formed on the same day. This committee is sponsored
by various organizations including the Professional Teachers' Union, the long
Kong Federation of Students, the Hong Kong Federation of Catholic Students,
