(e) Accepting that this is the inevitable trend for

the future, what would the implications be for the

Hong Kong community at large? Would the social structure adjust itself to integrate such free thinkers into the system without friction or disharmony? Or, is there likely to be a potential danger of social conflict when the new generation begins to assert itself, defying the existing

social order and calling into question time- honoured systems and disciplines? These were the major problems that many of our community leaders were provoked into considering by the Golden Jubilee controversy over the past few days.

(f) Emerging from these discussions was the well

consensus of responsible opinion that the community in general and school managements in particular should be fully alive to the need for change and adjustment with the times. The continued well being of Hong Kong will have to depend on the far-sightedness and agility of mind on the part of those whose duty it is to teach, to guide and to lead.
