automestical), vinnoted when the new academic year begins in September, 1978. The Form One students who did not make part in the recent sit-in were erranged to hers their schooling until July in another schoɔ]. (Appendix 14 & 15)

The public's reaction were mixed. There were strong reaction against this decision. In closing the school and retaining both the Supervisor and the Principal, the Education Department had clearly sided with the school authority and sacked the 16 teachers and suspended the 600 students. However, this judgement was passed without giving the teachers and students a fair hearing. This we believe is grossly unjust..ppendix 16)

The Executive Council came out to support the deci -sion of the Education Department and a three-nem -ber committee was appointed by the Governor to "recommend measures aimed at pre-enting a recurrence of the problems besetting the Precious Blood Golden Jubliee School. (Appendix 17)

Nothing was mentioned about the causes of the Golden Jubilee incident, nor was any mention about whether such a closure decision constituted injustice toward the 16 teachers and the 600 students.

Since 17/5/78 Many criticismswhich included university lecturers,

social workers, college students, workers, and educat -ore etc. cane out against the closure. Many demanded the ze-opening of the Golden Jubliee School first, and hearing of both parties by a high-power commis slor later. Appaydir 18 & 19) Mention must made of also many al supported the Education Department. 200 college sķudents voluntarily help to give tuit -ion to the bout 400 students who took part in the sit-in and were left schoolless until July. The Aucktion department announced that temporarily schooling arrangements could also be made for those sit-in students at different schools. It appealed to the parents to get their children registered at once.

Tuition giver by 200 college students to 400 stud -ents began at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University.

Starting from the closure of the school, the Education Department came up with accusations against the 16 teachers:

1. they stage the sit-in for securing their contracts;

2. one of the 16 teachers attempted to get the post of principal

-ship of the school by blackmailing the former principal;

3. they have "political backgrounds".

However, we are very doubtful of the truth of these accusations.

The above is a brief summary of the incidence which is still developing. We urge your urgent concern and action to bring about a fair solution.
