(c) Teachers for Split Classes, etc.

At the request of the principal, the Director may approve the

appointment of additional teaching staff under the terms of the salaries grant to cover staffing needs in respect of approved

additional class periods for split classes, practical instruction,

and specialist teaching requirements in secondary schools, especially

secondary technical schools. Split classes will only be approved for:

one additional second language teaching (if the number of pupils at any level is 20 or above); or

domestic subjects teaching; or

the teaching of subjects such as woodwork and metalwork

to Form V where proper facilities have been provided and

where workshops are designed to accommodate fewer than

40 pupils.

Split class teachers will not be approved for the teaching of technical subjects where workshops are designed to accommodate 40 pupils and where workshop instructors are provided under the provisions of

paragraph 4 of this Appendix.

(d) Teachers on Overseas Terms

Subject to the provisions of Appendix 17, teachers of English may be employed on overseas terms according to the following quotas :- (i) for all secondary schools of 12-23 classes, 2 teachers may

bc employed on overseas torms;

(ii) for all secondary schools of 24 or more classes, 3 teachers may

be employed on overseas terms.

Note: These quotas shall not include Principals/Heads of Schools

employed on overseas terms.

e) Part-time Teachers

To determine the appropriate fraction for a part-time teacher the following formula shall be used :-

Number of periods taught by teacher per week

Total number of periods taught per week

Workshop/Assistant Workshop Instructor

In schools with workshops designed to accommodate 40 pupils, one workshop instructor may be appointed per workshop. In schools with workshops designed to accommodate fewer than 40 pupils, one workshop instructor may be appointed for every two workshops except where the Director shall approve a higher ratic to allow for special circumstances.
