the basic training course.
The number of new vacancies in the aided and private non profit-making schools is expected to rise over the next few years as new secondary schools are opened and this factor, together with the proposed lengthening of the initial training course and the scheme of refresher training announced above, will ensure that optimum use is made of the capacity of the three colleges of education.

The Government is not directly responsible for the recruitment of teachers to aided and private schools. It has never guaranteed employment to students at the colleges and will not do so in future. However, the intake to the full-time courses is based on the estimated number of teaching posts likely to be available to the students at the time of graduating. Prospects for students admitted to these courses in future years are considered likely to be good.

The Technical Teachers' College provides specialised courses for those wishing to become teachers of technical education in schools or in the technical institutes. In order to allow for an increased output of teachers for the extended role of practical and technical subjects within the secondary school curriculum and for the growing number of technical institutes, part of the accommodation to be provided by the conversion of the present Victoria Technical School building will be made available to the College. Courses in the College are of varying length according to the background of the student. The basic training course for intending teachers of technical education in schools will be extended in line with the similar development in other colleges of education, and the College will be involved also in providing refresher training for serving teachers.
