Japan

7. Japan will not take a prominent part in the conference, because she cannot accept many refugees. However, financial assistance to UNHCR will be continued. Japanese Cabinet decided on 6 December not to aall, at least for the time being, for guarantees of resettlement from third countries whose flag-ships put into Japan with refugees aboard.

Malaysia

8. Malaysia cannot continue to accept the present influx of refugees for much longer. If international action is not forthcoming, drastic measures to cut the number of immigrants will be necessary. Malaysia expects the UK to play a constructive part in producing a solution to the problem.

New Zealand

9. British Press reported recently that New Zealand announced an intake of 600 Indo-Chinese refugees.

Denmark

10. Denmark is eager to see a solution to the problem, but is unlikely to increase her assistance, either financially or by accepting more refugees.

Italy

11. No firm attitude has been decided, but it is unlikely that Italy can offer much beyond the strictly limited assistance that she is giving at present.
