Since the last meeting of the Asia Committee held on 5 September 1978 the numbers of Vietnamese Boat People received in Britain are as follows:
On 13 October 1978
23 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong received
into the BCAR Reception Centre at 17-21 Denbigh Road Notting Hill;

On 16 October 1978-346 Vietnamese refugees rescued by the British ship
"WELPARK" received by BOAR into a recetion centre specially set up for this group at the Kensington Palace Barracks in Church Street Kensington, 29 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong received by
Ockenden Venture into their reception centre in Dewsbury Yorks;

4 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong received by
BCAR into their reception centre at 17-21 Denbigh Road Notting Hill;
1 Vietnamese who had been taken off the flight of
1 November in Calcutta on medical grounds arrived in London and BCAR arranged for his immediate hospitalisation at the Roya.. Marsden Hospital in

40 refugees of whom 374 are currently in London under the care of BCAR and 29 in Dewsbury under the care of Ockenden Venture.

It is difficult to estimate the number of further Vietnamese Boat People to be received in Britain in the near future because of the uncertainty regarding numbers that might be rescued by British ships. Bowfi

However, with regard to the three other groups which had been rescued by Briti ships and were allowed to land temporarily in ports in South East Asia the latest information is as follows:

estimated 150 will have to be accepted in UK confirm all ll will shortly come to the UK
40 landed in Taiwan
currently being processed in Hong Kong and it

In addition the Government has been asked to relieve the situation in Hong Kong by admitting more Vietnamese to Britain from the overcrowded camps in Hong Kong. BCAR and Ockenden Venture have been asked to indicate to the Home Office what arrangements ye: can make for receiving such extra numbers and how many over what period. e numbers under discussion run into several
hundred and possibly 500 extra from Hong Kong.
