solutions for both the "land cases" in Thailand and the "boat cases" arriving throughout the region is urgent and imperative. The High Commissioner, accordingly, is actively exploring the possibility of promoting durable solutions, through an expanded programme of resettlement in third countries as well as through local possibilities.

VII FUTURE F.CTION

Moreover, the need for continuing consultations between UNHCR, governments of countries of asylum, and governments of major resettle- ment and donor countries has become more vital than ever, given the growing dimensions and complexities of the problem and the need for a concerted and active response from the international community.

It is hoped that this meeting, which provides an important opportunity to continue the process of consultation, will enable participants to share views with UNHCR and examine ways and means to coordinate responses to the humanitarian challenge arising from the problem of Indochinese refugees and Cisplaced persons.
