Some Chinese refugees from Vietnam are seeking

. to settle in the United States, France and Hong Kong, a

Japanese correspondent reported from China Saturday.

Shuitsu Henmi of Kyodo News Service reported this from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province in southwest China bordering Vietnam.

He quoted an official in charge of overseas Chinese as saying "There were some Chinese refugees who have expressed desire to go to the United States, France

and Hong Kong.

"China is ready to allow them to make contacts

with their relatives abroad and leave the country after necessary procedures are taken" the official was quoted as saying.

Henmi also reported there were Vietnamese among the ethnic Chinese entering China since the mass exodus began.

Quoting a Chinese official, the Kyodo correspondent

said "In most cases, the Vietnamese were husbands or wives

of the Chinese refugees

The number of Chinese refugees who have entered

China have so far totalled more than 40,000 in Yunnan

Province alone, he reported.
