Immigration Department have only kept separate statistics since 1 May for refugees of Chinese/Vietnamese ethnic origin. Of the 1,793 who arrived between May and 25/7/1978, 973 (54.3%) were of Chinese origin and 820(45.7%) of Vietnamese origin.
