HONG KONG: PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION: VIETNAMESE REFUGEES

1. I submit a draft answer, together with a Background Note, to the oral question tabled by Sir Anthony Royle (Conservative Richmond Upon Thames) for answer on 15 March.

Parliamentary Unit have informed us that since the Question

is unlikely to be reached for oral answer, no supplementaries

are required.

2. Sir Anthony Royle, who is generally sympathetic to the Flags B+C policies of the Hong Kong Government, has already tabled two

Parliamentary Questions this year on Vietnamese refugees.

The present Question stems directly from the latter of these.

3. The draft answer has been agreed with the Home Office.
