28. HOW AND WHEN TO CLAIN GUARDIAN'S ALLOWANCE
The alld ce should be claimed not later than 6 months after the child joins the family; otherwise the guardian shall lose some benefit. A claim form may be obtained from the Department of Labour & Social Security.

WHO CAN QUALIFY?
OLD AGE PENSION
The pension will
The minimum pension age is 65 for a man and 60 for a woman. be paid whether the pensioner has retired from work or not subject of course, to his satisfying the contribution conditions.
The standard rate of weekly pension is £14.50 with increases of £2.40 for each child to a maximum of 4 children.
In the case of a man the weekly rate of £14.50 is increased by £8.00 a week in respect of his wife if:-
(1) whe is under 60 years of age;
(ii) she is residing with or is being wholly or mainly
maintained by him; and
(iii) she is not working in any occupation in which her
wages exceed £9.30 a week.
A woman may have the weekly rate of £14.50 increased by £8.00 a week in respect of her husband if:-
(i) he is under 65 years of age;
(ii) he is residing with and is and has been for not less
than ten years wholly or mainly maintained by her;
and
(iii) he has been during this period permanently incapable of
self-support by reason of physical or mental infirmity and is likely to remain so incapable for a prolonged period.
30. SPECIAL PROVISIONS AS TO WOMEN
On reaching the age of 60 a woman may claim an Old Age Pension on her own insurance at the rate of £14.50 a week.
She may instead claim a pension on her husband's insurance at the rate of £8.00 a week subject to the following conditions:-
(i) she is married to her husband when she attains that age;
(ii) her husband is over 65 years of age; and
(iii) her husband satisfies the contribution conditions of old age
pension.
If when a woman reached the age of 60 her husband is dead, she may be entitled to an old age pension on her husnand's insurance at the rate of £14.50 a week.
