How claims are decided

no

Claims to benefit are decided by specially appointed insurance officers. The claimant is always told the decision and how he may contest it. A dis- satisfied claimant may appeal to an independent local tribunal and, finally, to a National Insurance Commissioner.

Questions relating to contributions are reserved for the Secretary of State's determination. Certain matters are decided by other bodies, eg industrial injuries medical boards, the Attendance Allowance Board. An appeal can be lodged by writing to the local social security office.
