IMPROVED DECLARATIONS ON ILO CONVENTIONS 1978

1. In Appendix II to his letter CR 7/5683/74 of 4 August to Mr McLaren in Hong Kong and General Department the Secretary for Social Services gave details of the Conventions on which it was hoped to make improved declarations during 1978. As you know, Nos 90, 142 and 144, and, additionally, Nos. 17 and 95, have been dealt with, but the end of the year is approaching and I wonder if we may expect to receive trial reports shortly on - in particular Conventions Nos 74, for which I note the necessary legislation was passed on 5 July, and 94, in connection with which it was stated that fair wages clauses were already being included in all public contracts. We shall process the declarations here as quickly as possible, but you will appreciate that it may be difficult to get them registered by the ILO by the end of December if we do not receive the revised declarations fairly soon.

2. I note from Mr Ho's letter under reference that further legislation was necessary for the remaining two Conventions Nos 32 and 42.
