A sufficient supply of wholesome drinking water or of some other wholesome drink shall be made available to workers.
Sufficient and suitable washing facilities and sanitary conveniences shall be provided and properly maintained.
There is no legislation providing for drinking water or wholesome drink to workers. However, it is not envisaged that there would be great difficulty in applying this article because at present most offices and shops already have similar arrangements.
The number of water closet fitments, urinals and lavatory basins required for male and female workers in an office are set out in Tables VI, VII and VIII under Regula- tion 5 of the Building (Standards of Sanitary Fitments, Plumbing, Drainage Works and Latrines) Regulations, which are summarised in the Appendix. In any office where the number of male and female employees does not exceed ten, not less than one water closet fitment and one lavatory basin must be provided. The water closet fitments, urinals and lavatory basins for male persons and the water closet fitments and lavatory basins for female persons shall be provided in separate rooms exclusively for the use of male persons and female persons respectively.
Under section 29 of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Cap. 132, regulations may be made, inter alia, prescribing or providing for the provision and maintenance of suitable and sufficient latrine accommodation in connexion with any premises and the maintenance in proper working order, repair and clean conditions of latrines etc. The Conservancy By-laws 1960 prescribe the responsibilities of owner/occupier of a building with regard to construction, maintenance etc. of water closets and dry latrines and also the disposal of the contents of dry latrine.
Sufficient and suitable seats shall be supplied for workers and workers shall be given reasonable opportunities of using them.
There is no legislation giving effect to this article at present, but the application of this article should not cause any problem.
