HONG KONG: INSPIRED PQS ON APPLICATION OF ILO CONVENTIONS
1. On my submission of 15 March, Lord Goronwy-Roberts minuted that the information which it contained on Hong Kong's progress in applying
ILO Conventions should be published in Hansard. The Minister thought that Lord Weidenfeld and Sir Anthony Royle could be asked to put down a question for written answer in their respective Houses on the following lines: "To ask what progress Hong Kong has made in applying in full or in part International Labour Organisations Conventions, and how this compares with progress attained by other Dependencies and Asian countries." The Minister has now indicated that he would also like Mr Frank Hooley to put down a similar question.
Flag A 2. As my earlier submission explained, Hong Kong's progress compares
favourably with that of other Dependent Territories as well as a substantial number of South East Asian countries.
3.
I submit draft replies to the inspired questions from both Houses.
4. The Parliamentary Unit have confirmed that the questions will be accepted by the Table under the rules of order. WIAD have confirmed that they see no objection to the proposed question and answer even though it reflects somewhat unfavourably on Bermuda.
