ILO CONVENTIONS

1. We have recently prepared a comparison of Hong Kong's record in applying the ILO Conventions with the record of other Asian countries and other UK Dependent Territories.

Lord Goronwy-hoberts has instructed that this information, which demonstrates Hong Kong's good performance, should appear in the Hansard's for both Houses and we are therefore arranging for The PQ's to be tabled by Lord Weidenfeld and Sir Anthony koyle. proposed questions and answers will read:

"to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (Her Majesty's Government) what progress Hong Kong has made in applying in full or in part ILO Conventions, and how this compares with progress achieved by other dependencies and Asian countries.'

Hong Kong's performance in applying ILO Conventions compares well with most UK Dependent Territories as well as a substantial number of Asian countries. The number of Conventions ratified by selection of countries are -
