FOLLOWING VARIOUS RUMOURS, IT WAS CONFIRMED IN THE RECENT CPA/JAL

POOL MEETING THAT JAA HAD APPLIED TO THE JCAB FOR APPROVAL TO

REMAIN AT HANEDA AFTER THE OPENING OF NARITA.

2. CPA OPERATE CONSIDERABLE CAPACITY ON THE SECTOR TYO/TPE AND

THE JAA REQUEST IF APPROVED WOULD HAVE A VERY DETRIMENTAL EFFECT

ON CPA REVENUE BETWEEN TYO AND TPE, CPA ESTIMATE THE LOSS OF REVENUE CAUSED BY CAL AND JAA OPERATING HANEDA/TAIPEI VV TO BE

US DOLLARS 9.55 MILLION PA.

3. THERE SEEMS EVERY LIKELIHOOD THAT THE JCAB WILL ALLOW JAA

TO REMAIN AT HANEDA, GIVEN THE JAPANESE AGILITY AT TURNING ENVIRONMENTAL, POLITICAL AND CAPACITY PROBLEMS TO THE DISADVANTAGE

OF FOREIGN AIRLINES, NOT ONLY FOR COMPETITIVE REASONS WITH CAL, BUT ALSO BECAUSE JAA WOULD ONLY USE HANEDA FOR TYO/TPE VV SERVICES

WHICH ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE CPA/JAL POOL ARRANGEMENTS. POOLED

JAA SERVICES TO HKG OPERATE OUT OF OSA. FURTHERMORE, JAA HANDLE

CAL AND IF JAA OPERATED OUT OF NARITA WHILST CAL OPERATED OUT OF

HANEDA, JAA WOULD HAVE TO HIRE ADDITIONAL STAFF WHICH THEY ARE

OBVIOUSLY RELUCTANT TO DO.
