Dear Sir,

The Hong Kong Heritage Society's Petition to H.E. the Governor concerning the old K.C.R. station and Development of the Tsim Sha Tsui Peninsula.
The Hong Kong Heritage Society presented a petition to His Excellency
the Governor, concerning the K.C.R. station. This embraced many important issues including the proper plaming of the tip of the Tsim Sha Tsui peninsula, the method of planning and decision-making in Hong Kong, and the involvement of the
man-in-the-street in this process.
The Petition is complex, but it only gives an outline. Included with
We have the Petition was one possible alternative plan for the whole area. requested an interview with His Excellency to explain it.
Among the documents was a Press File with 163 clippings from English and Chinese language newspapers, showing the sustained public support and interest in the retention of the K.C.R. buildings.
The Petition was presented on 29th July 1977 at which time the P.W.D.'s proposals for the proposed Cultural Complex were still only in the form of elementary sketches. In the interval we are informed that design work has been proceeding. A decision is urgently required to avoid abortive work on the part of the P.W.D. Architectural Office, should our Petition be favourably received. Consultant engineers for the proposed re-connection of the K.C.R. line to Tsim Sha Tsui will also be briefed shortly.
Many important decisions are interconnected.
They are:-
1):
the proposals for the Cultural Complex;
2).
the proposals for a new bus/transport terminus;
3).
the proposed re-connection of the K.C.R. line underground;
4).
the preservation of the old station, and the pleasant wooded hill on which stands the old Marine Police Station;
5).
the need for a trade-exhibiti on centre.
