NEW RAILWAY LINE BETWEEN SHA TIN AND UNIVERSITY SERVING RACECOURSE
On 22nd June 1976 the construction of a new railway line between Sha Tin and University together with the building of a new station to serve the new racecourse was approved.

The track and signalling work is now complete and, following inspection and the operation of test trains on 2nd and 3rd September, a certificate from the General Manager, Railway, certifying that the route is safe for the conveyance of passengers is attached in accordance with section 14 of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Ordinance (Chapter 99).

Following the recent rock fall from the face of the cutting of the present main line between Sha Tin and University Stations near Ho Tung Lau, special safety measures have been taken to permit the running of trains, and these will continue until such time as the whole of the cutting face has been removed. In view of the need to make the main line available as quickly as possible for the remedial work to be put in hand, the train service, both passenger and freight, was diverted via the new racecourse loop line from 4th September.
