I am authorised by Her Majesty's Government to

convey to the Hong Kong Government that following

discussions in the United Kingdom between Departments

and Metro-Cammell Limited, the company are now able

to assure the Hong Kong Government that the purchase

price of the electric multiple units specified in Public

Works Department Contract No.689/78 Package 5 would not

exceed £44.4 million plus the actual cost of shipping.

For your information, I enclose Metro-Cammell

Limited's formal assurance to me and confirm that it

has the full backing of the Laird Group.
