Thyristor chopper control with regenerative braking has reached
the stage of development where it would probably be included on
the proposed car on account of the substantial energy savings
and jerkless acceleration it makes possible. The Hannover
6000 series cars are fitted with this equipment.

Table A.1 summarises the planning specification of the proposed
vehicle and compares its parameters with three existing West European designs, which are illustrated in Figures 11 and 12.
The Stadtbahnwagen M is built by the West German firm, Waggonfabrik
Uerdingen (Düwag). Six and eight axle versions of the car are
currently in use on a number of German systems including Mulheim, Essen, Bochum, Nuremburg and Bielefeld and versions have been
built to 1.000m, 1.435m and 1.100m gauges. The car is 2.3m
wide, but is only equipped for low platform operation. The
existing cars are capable of operation in 3 car trains.
The Hannover 6000 - series car was designed by the Hannover
undertaking in conjunction with Düwag and is specifically
intended for mixed high and low platform operation. The
mimimum radius of curve at 17.5m is somewhat greater than the other cars, and the car is wider (2.4m). The overall
layout of the car, however, is probably the closest to the requirement for Hong Kong. These cars can operate in 4-car
trains.
