Dear Prime Minister,

I was indeed happy to learn from today's Press that Chairman Hua Kuo-feng is to pay a visit to London next year and that you have, in principle, accepted his invitation to travel to China.

It is particularly pleasing to note the increasingly good relations between China and Great Britain over the past 18 months - truly a just reward for your foresight and initiative.

Though I know it is still early, I write in the hope that you will find time to visit Hong Kong when, if possible, I should like to show you our generating station at Tsing Yi which stands out as the most important monument to British industry and engineering in the Far East. It would also give me great pleasure to show you the new development at Tap Shek Kok which is resulting in the placing of orders in the United Kingdom for plant and facilities costing over £1,000 million a project which could not have come into being had it not been for your continued support and interest.

-

Please do not hesitate to call upon me if, in my way, I can be of any assistance to you in this part of the world.

LK/mw

Yours faithfully,

Lowrance Madorie:
