Thank you for your letter of 9 August about progress on the various stages of Project 77. I am sorry my commitments
were such that I was not able to see you during your recent
stay in London. I understand Alan Williams conveyed my
apologies when you met him. I am glad to hear your discussions
with him and Eric Varley and Edmund Dell were fruitful.
During his visit to Peking, Edmund Dell emphasised to the Chinese Minister for Trade HMG's full support for your
electrification proposals which the Chinese are now considering.
Alan Williams has told me that he too is pleased with
progress on the two specific projects you mention and I trust there will be a satisfactory outcome on the various points you
raise.
