Sir Lawrence explained that Mr Stones had worked for the

CEGB in Britain Before coming to Hong Kong and was able to draw on the expertise and advice of the CEGB if this was required. He stressed the great importance of engineering and design work. For example the new power station would involve 250,000 hours of design work. Sir Lawrence said that Mr Callaghan had promised him the services of the CEGB experts only 3 weeks previously.

This was the first time that an arrangement of this kind had been made. Mr Stones added that this meant that CLF was backed up by CEGB, the biggest integrated system in the world except possibly

the Soviet Union.

15. Mr Sun invited Sir Lawrence to make proposals to the China Resources Company in Hong Kong rather than to Canton. He himself would also consult the relevant departments in Feking. He concluded the meeting by saying that this was only the beginning

of contacts between the two sides.
