I understand from Sir Lawrence Kadoorie that the Prime Minister is aware of the signing by J. Henry Schroder Wagg and Co. Limited and Kowloon Electricity Supply Company Limited of a U. S. $390,000,000 loan guaranteed by ECGD to finance the supply of generating plant by GEC Turbine Generators Limited for a new power station in Hong Kong.
As I understand that the Prime Minister has shown considerable personal interest in this important export order, I thought you might like to let him know that the successful outcome of the negotiations was in no small measure due to the excellent cooperation and coordination between Government through the Department of Industry, The City of London through the banks, and British Industry, through GEC.
We for our part will make every effort to try and develop this pattern of cooperation in the future.
