and with the following terms of reference: (i) to publicise the proposed changes in the voltage so as to ensure, in particular, that consumers fully understand the advantages; to consider any representations concerning the proposals;

(ii)

(iii)

in the light of (ii) and any other considerations, to advise the Government on any modifications the Working Group consider necessary to the proposals; (iv) to provide for such coordination

as may be necessary between the power companies, the providers of equipment and consumers;

(c) one of the first tasks of the Steering Group would

be to consider how to set up a service to advise consumers on their individual problems deriving from the change in voltage. One possibility might be to use the City District Offices for this purpose.

Honourable Members will be asked to advise whether:

(a) in principle the supply voltage should be changed to

210 volts on 1st July 1980

and then to

220 volts on 1st January 1985;

(b) no compensation should be paid to consumers with

equipment unsuited to the higher voltages.
