I, too, am happy it has been possible to negotiate, the contract for our new Power Station, in the U.K. It is particularly pleasing to know that Hong Kong will be keeping some 2,000 people in the United Kingdom fully employed for a period of four years and, what is more, I believe this contract is likely to lead to several others. I hope this fact will be borne in mind when Parliamentarians consider questions relating to Hong Kong and that there will be some reciprocal treatment.

The time has come for serious consideration to be given to Hong Kong's future as a free zone of China under British management and all those who have our interests at heart should endeavour to create a mutuality of interests thus providing a smooth transition into the world of 2000.

It is interesting that you mention steel-making within China, From the press i have learned that the Japanese are to. supply a major steel works in exchange, for China products such as coal and oil.
