Thank you for your helpful letter AEF 24/625/01 of 26 April, the contents of which I conveyed to Mr J Thompson of our Hong Kong and General Department, who was about to leave on a short visit to Hong Kong. Mr Thompson will make the points in your letter, and will let us know on his return to London the reaction of the Hong Kong authorities.

2. Unfortunately in your letter you omitted to comment on the suggestion in paragraph 4 of Douglas Blye's letter of 14 December that our refusal to allow the sale in the UK of a small quantity of gold coin minted in this country should be reconsidered. I should be grateful if you would let me have Treasury/Bank views on this as soon as possible.
