I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and 1348/508/

Hew Commonwealth Affairs to refer to your letter of 1 July 1979, informing this department that the Lords Commissioners of HM's Treasury have agreed to the issue of a 50 cents coin by the Hong Kong Government.

I now enclose a draft Proclamation which the Hong Kong Government wishes to issue in order to make a new $1 coin legal tender.

The Secretary of State for his part is prepared to grant the approval sought by the Governor of Hong Kong and I am accordingly requesting that the matter may be laid before their Lordships and that their decision be communicated to this department in due course.

A copy of this letter is being forwarded to the Master of the Royal Mint for his information.
