HONG KONG COINAGE

Thank you for your letter of 16 October. I realise that you have pressing and more important business just at the moment and I am sorry to have to return to this irritating and rather trivial matter.

We are now agreed that the Hong Kong lawyers are right and thus we need to set in hand, as a matter of urgency, an amended Order in Council which, inter alia, will provide specific authority for the demonetization of the old 50 cent coin. Accordingly the draft of an amendment Order is attached on which I would be grateful for your comments. The Privy Council Office have informed us that the next two Councils at Buckingham Palace are arranged for Wednesday, 15 November and Wednesday, 20 December.

A copy of the 1936 Order in Council is enclosed.
