REWAL OF THE MULTIFIBRE APR `NGEMENT ND NEW BILATERAL AGREEMENTS
As I am sure you know, the Council agreed on 20 December that the Community should renew the GATT Multifibre irrangement (the MPA) and approved the terms of the bilateral agreements negotiated by the Commission.
2 In view of the general interest in the outcome of the negotiations, we have prepared a summ.ry, which describes the main features of the new bilateral agreements, including the special arrangements with the Mediterranean suppliers. A copy is attichel for your information. As you will see, the UK quota figures for 1978 have not been announced yet these still have to be approved by the Council and will be announced in a Notice to Importers as soon as possible. We have also prepared a shortened version of the summary which vill appear in Trade and Industry on 27 January. A copy of the text of this article is also attached. Both documents have been widely circulated to both sides of the textile industry and to Ms with textile constituencies; will be made available to the press on 2 January.
