Ireco Chemicals, who hold the patents on the original slurry

formulations, and their licencees, sold approximately 26 m lbs

of small diameter (less than 2") slurries in 1977. This figure includes Iremite slurries in 1-11" dia at the rate of approximately 4,000 tons/annum for underground iron ore mining at Kiruna in North

Sweden and similar small diameter usages of more than 2,000 tons/

annum in Chile and Brazil for general purpose and underground

mining use.

ICI has full rights to the Ireco technology and intends to use this

in Hong Kong.

4 Two reports are attached which cover test programmes carried out

in Hong Kong with cartridged small diameter slurries.

These are:

1 Extract from Report on Trials with Iremite 60 slurry explosives

at Hitunnels JA Shaft.

Trials with Small Diameter Iremite Explosive, Hong Kong,

March/April 1977.

The quantities used in these test programmes were relatively small

and the remainder of the 70 tons supplied has been used successfully

in unsupervised trials.

1 To our knowledge there have been no accidental detonations or other

events of serious concern involved in the transportation, handling,

storage or use of the ICI products we propose to manufacture.
