ICI introduced into Hong Kong the newly-developed slurry explosives by manufacturing on-site at the ligh Island Dam scheme, Large diameter blast holes are charged from a mobile mixing plant on a truck. This operation will continue until the end of 1978.
May 1973.
ICI registered with the Mines Dept their interest in extending the High Island operation to the production of cartridged explosives at a fixed plant location. ❤ Information was requested on what conditions would be attached and the possible need for a special security site.
January 1974.
ICI received letter from Mines Dept asking if we were prepared to restrict production from our proposed local plant to the local market only.
January 1974.
ICI agreed to restrict their assessment of the viability of the project to that of producing for the local market only.
Early 1974.
The first packaged slurries used in Hong Kong was imported by ICI for trials at the litunnels contract.
Late 1974.
A substantial tonnage of packaged alurry explosives for further trials was imported by ICI into Hong Kong.
Mid 1975.
Public concern over consequences of possible explosion due to the holding of substantial stocks at the Green Island depot accelerated Government interest in local manufacture of slurry explosives,
September 1975.
Risks associated with holding substantial quantities of explosives were reduced by transferring the major part of the stocks from . Green Island to underground magazines on Stonecutters Island.
October 1975.
ICI submitted to the Mines Dept a proposal and feasibility study for manufacturing cartridged slurry explosives. in llong Kong based on the understanding that it was for Hong Kong use only to meet the Government's expressed desire to eliminate large tonnage imports by ship.
November 1975.
ICI were advised that llong Kong Government's current thinking was that Stonecutters Island would be the most feasible location for the manufacturing plant.
