49. The Army's logistic support has been progressively reduced since 1974 and there is no spare capacity to provide logistics for Priority Two operations other than those in which Land Forces

do not exceed a battalion group and the operation does not last

longer than about six months. The limited logistic support integral to a battalion group would probably be sufficient to permit

the formation to support itself for up to six months.

deployment and for logistic support in theatre. However the

primary function of the ATP is to provide aircraft to meet the

a period of tension or war. Its composition is related to

52. Neither now nor in the future is the ATF likely to be able

to satisfy all bids for Service airlift, and there is always

likely to be a requirement for recourse to civil carriers to
