Thank you for your minute of 20th February explaining that it has not been possible to announce publicly the delay in the amalgamation of the fourth and fifth Gurkha battalions in the time scale originally planned. Under the circumstances the Secretary of State has agreed that those ranks in the Brigade of Gurkhas and staff in UK and Headquarters British Forces Hong Kong who are involved in the planning of the future of the Brigade and of its component units; the unit in the UK which is concerned; and their families in Nepal may all be informed on an in-Confidence basis of the postponement.
