Power to grant indeterminate leases
2. The Governor, acting in pursuance of Article XIII of the
Hong Kong Letters Patent 1917, as amended by the Hong Kong
Letters Patent 1960, may, if he shall think fit and notwith-
standing any rule of law to the contrary, grant a lease of
any land in any part of the Colony, including land in the
New Territories, being land that may be lawfully granted or
disposed of by Her Majesty, without specifying any term for
the duration of the lease, which shall accordingly continue
in force indefinitely unless it is determined or forfeited
in accordance with the terms and conditions thereof or any
provision of law applicable thereto.
Variation of existing leases
3. There shall be such provision as may be made by or under
any law enacted in pursuance of Article VII of the Hong Kong
Letters Patent 1917 for the conversion into indeterminate
leases of leases granted for specified terms.
Saving provision
4.
Nothing in this Order shall be construed as affecting
(a) the powers of the Governor, with the advice and consent
of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, to make laws
for the New Territories containing provisions that will
or may have effect after any particular date, whether
in June 1997 or thereafter;
(b) the powers of the Governor or any other officer or
authority of the Government of Hong Kong to enter into
any transaction that will or may have effect in the New
Territories after any such date or to do any other thing
that will or may have such effect.
