I wrote to you on 6 May and again to Nick Fen on 18 June (copied to you) about reassurances given to Jardines by representatives of the CNA in relation to the future of Hong Kong and the need for continued British investment here.

You may be interested in some further evidence t. that the local communists are continuing to take this

confident and friendly line about the future in discussion with people here.

A recent example was provided at a luuch party given on 11 September by Stanley 110 at his house in long Kong, when the guests were a group of local businessmen, Eric llo, the Director of Home Affairs, was also present, I am indebted to him and to one of the other guests for th following account.
