I would agree with David Wilson's further suggestion that, if the Corporation wishes to pursue these points further, they could usefully approach the Canadian Commissioner in Hong Kong; - He would be able to provide them with a more accurate assessment from the Canadian viewpoint. When dealing with similar enquiries from the UK we are making it quite clear that as far as investment prospects are concerned there is nothing to indicate that short term prospects are likely to alter. In the longer term it is impossible to be certain since so many factors can alter between now and 1997. However our belief is that Chinese interest in maintaining the Hong Kong economy is likely to continue for the foreseeable future and that they will therefore do nothing to undermine business confidence.
