Invest in China?

The Hongkong Standard (February 4) reported "Peking has invited a group of Overseas Chinese to set up manufacturing facilities in China".

It quoted sources close to "China trade connections" as saying that a group visiting Canton recently had been told that Peking was willing to provide a site and labour to overseas investors and that by exporting these goods China would be able to obtain her foreign exchange.

The paper said the proposal put to the Overseas Chinese group had been "interpreted by observers as a sign of marked policy changes" and that they said it was a "first step towards the eventual establishment of export processing zones in the country".
