As you may be aware, we have had complaints in the past from N C N A about local maps showing the line between the New Territories and Pao An County as an "international boundary" (see our telno 585 to, FC 0 of 10 June 1977). As part of the process of ensuring that similar problems do not arise in future, the M OD Directorate of Military Survey have been preparing a Technical Instruction on the depiction and description of Hong Kong's boundary on all their maps. Survey Branch of Headquarters British Forces here have now passed us their revised draft which incorporates earlier comments we have made. I enclose a copy and shall be grateful if you could ask Legal Advisers to cast an eye over it. If they see no objection I would be grateful if you could inform Brading of the Directorate of Military Survey direct. His letter of 4 May to Survey Branch, H Q B F here is also enclosed.
