VISIT OF THE PORTUGUESE FOREIGN MINISTER, DR VITOR SA MACHADO: 24 JUNE 1 JULY

1. I submit briefs for the visit of Dr Sa Machado. The programme for the visit is annexed to the Steering Brief; copies of the printed version have been distributed direct. Since the briefs went to press there have been developments between Portugal and China over Macao. HK and GD are submitting separately.

2.

Dr Sa Machado's call on Mr Judd at 15.40 on 29 June is expected to be largely a courtesy call. Lord Moran will attend. The talks with the Secretary of State at 11.30 on Friday 30 June will be attended by Mr Judd, the PUS, Mr Hibbert and Lord Moran, as well as a notetaker from SED.
