Secretary of State thanked Sir Murray for sparing the time to call to see him. He explained that, because of a previous appointment, he had been unable to accept the Commissioner's invitation to lunch, but said that he was most anxious to take the opportunity of renewing his acquaintanceship with Sir Murray.

The conversation was very general. Secretary of State's proposed visit to Hong Kong was discussed. Secretary of State said that he was not yet in a position to give firm dates for a visit, but was hoping that it would be from 30 May to 3 June. Sir Murray asked Secretary of State if there was anything he particularly wished to have included in his programme for the visit. Secretary of State said that if possible he would like to see something of the Hong Kong voluntary organisations, care of the elderly, their methods of dealing with juvenile delinquency, and non-custodial care. He said that he would be happy to take part in a radio or TV interview if this was arranged during his stay.
