VISIT (F DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERTES, HONG KONG
Ted Nichols, Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hong Kong, will be on leave this summer and I have arranged for him to come and see me at 2.30 pm on Wednesday
30 August. He has written to say that this will probably be his last leave before retirement and that, although he has had contact with SEADD, he does not have strong professional links with NR Advisers in HQ. I invite those NR Advisers to whom this is addressed to join us at 2.30 pm.
2. In addition, Mr Nichols has sent me an interesting paper entitled "An integrated ecological approach to agricultural policy making with reference to the urban fringe: the case of Hong Kong" This is certainly of interest to David Hall, Environmental Adviser, and perhaps Messrs Bennell and Franklin. Dr Hall has read the paper and I will circulate to others if they are interested.
3. It seems to me that Hong Kong, although not aid-worthy, presents a fascinating example of condensed but very real urban and rural environ- mental problems rubbing shoulders with each other. We have probably got much to learn from their experience. Hence I hope that at 3.30 pm we can turn to that subject. I am copying this minute to Messrs Harris, Thompson, Bennell and Franklin to invite them to join us at that time in A612 if they are interested.
