1. Many thanks for your letter of 11 July about dates for my visit to Hong Kong. bill Quantrill decided, rightly 1 think, that a decision could safely be left until my return from leave; hence the delay in this reply.

My main concern was and is that my trip should not be too close to, or still worse, coincide with that of the Secretary of itate. Plans for that visit are, as you will realise, in suspense at the moment but I gather that it is unlikely to come off before November if it takes place at all this year. On that basis I should be very happy to fall in with your wishes. Cubject to any views which Lonald Lurray or the Governor may have - I hope to see both next week - 1 would plan to fly out on 29 or 30 September and return over the weekend of 11/15 October.

I look forward in any case to seeing you in the Office on the morning of 21 August. 1 suggest about 11.30. If you have time, we might then go on to have lunch together before you leave for Scotland.
