commented on a report that a labour federation in Japan had
asked the government to impose restrictions on textile imports.

textile imports from certain countries, but these restrictions

industry. The value of Japan's fabrics shipped to Hong Kong
rose every year and stood at $1,563 million last year. If
Hong Kong's textile and clothing industries were hit, Japan
would also suffer eventually.

Japan in November. It is hoped that apart from promoting
Japanese investment in Hong Kong, the Governor would persuade
the Japanese to drop any attempt to restrict Hong Kong imports,
