PROPOSED HOVERFERRY SERVICE BETWEEN HONG KONG AND CANTON

Please refer to our telegram No. 747 of 17 June. The latest developments over the hoverferry service are recorded in my minute (copy attached) of 14 September to the Governor. As you can see, the Hongkong & Yaumatei Ferry's negotiations seem to be proceeding well and there are interesting suggestions about further developments i.e. a ferry service to Swatow.

I should be grateful if Research Department and Peking could provide any background which they might have on Lu P'ing, the emissary of Liao Cheng- chih who was in Canton while Edmund Lau had his regent meetings (para. 11 of minute). The US Consulate- General here have nothing on him.
