You wrote to Charles Drace-Francis on 23 November last year about this journal. I under- stand that Charles may have sent some background on it to you via Valery Givson. We have now learnt that the major influence behind the magazine is WAN Fai (3306/3549), a former WEN WEI PAO employee, whose wife still works for the newspaper. Apparently, the CHENG MING is now financially self-supporting and receives no support or direction from the NCNA. However, it takes a pro-Peking line and given WAN's background and continuing contacts with local Communist press circles here, it clearly counts as a United- Front publication.
